1885 Sheppard Dale
Henry Sheppard Dale A.R.E. (England) 1852-1921
Painter in water-colour of landscapes and architectural subjects; etcher and engraver. Born on 13th November 1852 and was educated at Sheffield Grammar School. Studied at Cary's Art School and then at the Slade School from 1871. He later studied in Italy 1874-77. Exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1878, mainly at the R.A., R.I. and Sufforlk Street. Worked for The Graphic 1879-81 and also illustrated several books. Produced many etchings, including portfolios of etchings of Venice 1881, Glastonbury 1885, Wells 1886, Salisbury 1887, Exeter 1888. Elected A.R.E. 1909. Lived for a time at Rye in Sussex and died on 24th November 1921.
